Process to Obtain a Marriage License
To obtain a Marriage License, please follows these steps:
- Call for an appointment at 775-887-2084. Appointments are weekdays only.
- The Clerk’s office will send you an email confirming your appointment providing the Marriage License Application and additional instructions.
- The cost is $100.00 ($85 marriage license, $15 certified copy of recorded marriage certificate). Payment may be made using cash or credit/debit card (VISA or MC credit/debit card only). Credit card transactions will incur a 3% transaction fee. Credit cards cannot be processed after 4 pm. Checks will not be accepted.
- You will be required to provide your original photo identification at the time you appear for your appointment. We cannot accept an expired ID. Acceptable forms of identification are listed below:
- A driver’s license
- State identification card
- A passport
- Military identification
Fees
To be legally married in the State of Nevada you must apply for a marriage license and have a marriage ceremony. The license fee in Carson City is $100.00. ($85.00 license, $15.00 certified copy of recorded marriage certificate).
Payment may be made by cash or credit card (Visa or Master Card). A transaction fee of 3% of purchase will be added to the credit card order. Credit cards cannot be processed after 4 pm.
Application
Both parties must appear together at the courthouse to show identification and to sign the license or application. Before you come in, you may wish to complete the Marriage License Application form to bring with you when you apply at our office. The marriage license/application is good for one-year after purchase.
